“Real relief for real people,” that is Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi’s slogan for distributing funds from the $25 Billion National Foreclosure Settlement with the five largest banks.
Florida’s piece of the national settlement pie is an $8.4 Billion
wedge. Of that, $170 million is slated to go directly to eligible
borrowers this summer. Bondi just announced that $60 million will go
towards down payment assistance, housing, counseling, State courts to
help with the backlog of foreclosure cases, local Legal Aid, and the
Florida State Attorney General’s office to reimburse and to continue
efforts to remedy abuses in the foreclosure process.
The next $200 million will be appropriated in the upcoming State
legislative session, and could go towards foreclosure prevention,
neighborhood revitalization, affordable housing, homebuyer or renter
assistance, legal assistance, counseling and other housing-related
